Instruments:: I used to play the piano as a teenager, but stopped after two years. BAD choice. I wonder how well I would play now if I hadn't stopped. But I took up singing instead, and sing 2nd bass (lowest male voice) in a couple of student choirs. Some time in early 2000 I started singing overtones, and have since then attended a few courses on throat and overtone singing. Around the same time I also played the didgeridoo for a while. I do think overtone singing is the best choice for me, not throat singing, although I'm able to use the "kargyraa" technique too.

Influences:: I don't compose music often, but it happens. I generally like quite much of the modernist "classical" music, as well as progressive rock. Among my most typical favourites are e.g. Arvo Pärt, John Tavener, Veljo Tormis, Kaija Saariaho, Steve Reich, Philip Glass. In the world of progressive rock I like especially 70's Genesis and Pink Floyd, plus Peter Gabriel, Kate Bush, Marillion. Going further back than the 1900's, I also appreciate J. S. Bach and some of his contemporaries, as well as some works by Wagner, Mahler, Brahms etc. etc.

The piece called "Aspirationes" in my playlist is partly improvised and partly composed. I included it here because it contains overtones and therefore it fits this site perfectly. Overtones and kargyraa were sung by myself, the tenor voice was Johan Hindström, the violin was played by Johanna Aalto, and the static chords are slightly computer-processed voices from the Brahe Djäknar choir in which I'm currently singing. The metallic drone tone is produced by a spring drum.

About me:: I work full-time as an electrical engineer specialized in acoustics. Other activities: recording engineering, photography, choral singing, occasionally also graphical design and composing. On the side I (try to) study some musicology at the university, but I don't really have time. Earlier I have also been very interested in things such as astronomy, physics, mathematics, drawing and painting, electronic music, and even athletics.

Ahaa - huomasit heti olevani uusi tulokas kurkkulaulun maailmaan, kiva. Olen todellakin juuri aloittanut elämässi suunnan yläsävellauluun - ja myös musiikin visualisoimiseen. Tätä aiemmin olen lähinnä itsekseni lauleskellut "hitaita laulujani" ja tehnyt visuaalisen alan töitä muistamatta, kuinka maailma oikein toimikaan.
